Our client, MicroGenDX, is a US-based healthcare company. It provides microbial DNA diagnostics based on quantitative PCR (qPCR) and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). These tests detect bacteria and identify antibiotic resistance with high accuracy. They give answers even when traditional methods, such as cultures or PCR, do not work.
The company works with both individual patients and healthcare providers. Patients can order tests directly through the website and receive discreet, detailed results at home. Healthcare providers use MicroGenDX as a trusted lab partner to diagnose complex infections and select effective treatments faster.
MicroGenDX was introduced to Uptech by one of our previous clients. At the time, the MicroGenDX platform combined both B2C and B2B flows in a single system. They decided to separate these directions and approached us to redesign the B2B website and build a new B2C platform from scratch.
Later, the project expanded. We developed a new B2C web platform, a custom admin panel, and native mobile apps for iOS and Android. The new system improves the patient journey from test ordering to result access. We also made sure it meets all HIPAA compliance requirements.
Today, the platform continues to grow. Our team supports the current needs of the US-based platform and develops a separate website for the newly acquired European team.

The project moved quickly and evolved over time. Requirements changed frequently, and the scope expanded beyond the initial vision.
Solution
The team took ownership of decision-making to keep the project moving while the client focused on higher-level priorities. We outlined the feature set, created detailed descriptions, and aligned them with the client during regular check-ins. This approach helped us stay flexible and keep up with the pace.
The platform had to follow HIPAA and GDPR standards. It needed secure storage for sensitive medical data and a way to manage user privacy preferences across regions.
Solution
We applied full data encryption and used Azure Key Vault to store confidential information securely. To meet privacy regulations, we integrated Osano for cookie consent and automated privacy preference management. These tools helped the platform stay compliant without adding manual steps.
The client needed the ability to update dynamic content like blog posts, product pages, and the homepage without relying on developers.
Solution
We used Shopify as a headless CMS. This gave the client full control over content updates through a simple and scalable interface.
The existing delivery setup faced occasional issues that disrupted order fulfillment. Some carriers failed to process shipping requests reliably, resulting in the delayed delivery of test kits.
Solution
We transitioned to Shippo, a delivery aggregator that offers access to multiple carriers through a single integration and manages label generation and shipment tracking. This change helped validate and autofill shipping data to reduce failed deliveries due to incomplete addresses.
The internal admin panel that we built allows the team to scan test barcodes, view customer information, and manage orders. Staff can also create orders on behalf of customers and track the full order-to-result cycle. The system supports real-time updates and role-based access to securely handle sensitive medical data.
The website enables users to place test orders and register their tests to receive results. All actions take place in one flow, which is simple, clear, and accessible on any device. The platform handles high volumes of users without delays and provides a consistent experience.
We built mobile apps for iOS and Android to give patients a convenient way to register test kits, track their status, and view results on the go. The apps offer a simplified version of the web experience with the same speed and reliability.
Freshpaint tracks user behavior across the website. This helps the team on the client’s side analyze conversion paths and improve the user experience based on real data. Thanks to automatic event tracking, the client can run experiments and optimize flows without involving developers.
