Mobile app for Hackathon event management
How we built a Hackathon event mobile app to organize schedules, guide participants, and keep the event running smoothly.

Uptech runs internal Hackathons where teams build real products in a matter of days. For example, in 2022, the theme was “Code for Ukraine,” so most ideas focused on helping the country during the war or thinking ahead to recovery.
To help the participants to navigate the event better, we created an Event Management App as a pet project. The idea is to put everything into one place: to show the agenda, highlight key moments, and keep participants in sync without extra effort. We also included NFT rewards that participants could keep after the event as a digital memory of the Hackathon.
We didn't have much time for the app to be ready for the event, so the team moved fast and kept the scope tight. In about two months, we shipped a working iOS and Android app that covers what people actually need in terms of Hackathons.
The whole thing was done in-house, from early ideas to release. The app performed well during the Hackathon and later turned into something the team could reuse for future events.

This wasn’t a “nice to have later” project. The app had to be ready for a specific Hackathon date. No delays, no extensions, no extra hands joining midway. At the same time, it still had to work well on both platforms.
Solution
Our team picked what actually mattered for the event and ignored the rest. Some ideas were dropped early. Others were simplified. That’s how the app made it to release on time.
What looked like a clear plan at the start didn’t last. As the event took shape, new ideas kept popping up. Some made sense, some didn’t, but all of them competed for time and attention.

Instead of freezing the scope, the team treated it as a moving target. We checked ideas quickly inside the team, kept the useful ones, and quietly let go of the rest without turning it into a big process.
The first versions of the UI looked great on screens. In code, though, some animations, transitions, and screen logic started to pile up and made things harder than expected.
Solution
Design and development met halfway. Together, we reworked some aspects and simplified others. The goal was to keep the feeling of the design without breaking the app.
The team wanted to make the Hackathon feel more memorable, so participants received personalized NFT rewards after the event. The idea worked well for engagement, but it also introduced extra complexity around wallets, external platforms, and onboarding users unfamiliar with NFTs.
Solution
The team didn’t try to hide the complexity. They walked users through it step by step. First, we created accounts outside the app and then manually assigned the NFTs. Everything worked well during the event.
Participants can sign in with pre-approved emails and land straight in their space. No setup steps. The dashboard shows team info, rules, and key details, so people don't have to search across chats or files during the event.


Before the start, the app shows a countdown, which helps everyone sync. Once things kick off, it shifts into a live mode where participants can follow what is happening without asking around or missing important moments.

The full schedule sits inside the app and stays easy to check at any point. If something changes, updates come through right away. Participants don't have to rely on scattered messages, as they always know what is coming next.

Teams can ask mentors for help directly in the app. We limited the number of requests to keep it fair and manageable. Mentors aren't flooded, and participants still have a clear way to get support when they get stuck.


Each participant receives a personalized NFT as a memory from the event. The app also shows results and wraps things up, so people can see outcomes and keep something tangible after the Hackathon.
