The Uptech team is all about innovation and creativity! Not only do we build amazing apps for our clients, but we also like to merge creativity and innovation to give birth to a fantastic product that improves users' lives. Hackathons are a great place to do that!
At Uptech, we regularly hold thematic Hackathons, where teams brainstorm ideas and work hard to produce socially valuable products.
For example, the theme of Uptech Hackathon 2022 was "Code for Ukraine." Thus, teams were working on app ideas to either help Ukraine win against the atrocious aggressor or rebuild Ukraine for the better.
This was a true celebration of creativity and innovation, bursting with emotions and ideas. To help the participants to navigate the event better, we created an Event Management App as a pet project.
The app is a great tool to smoothly organize all the activities planned for the event. It also helps to keep the participants in the know about the event’s agenda, notify them of the upcoming milestones and recap of the event.
Event Planning Flutter App
Within 2 months, we created an event management app that serves Uptech Hackathon purposes and can be a great organizational tool for many companies to conduct team-building activities, conferences, workshops, and other events.
So, in the end, we:
01
The Hackathon app was Uptech’s pet project, due in 2 months. The resources were tight (budget, timeline, people), and we had to provide a fully running mobile app with a full feature set for two mobile platforms.
Moreover, during the development, the list of features we had come up with initially was not sufficient for the app. So we had to take it further!
Within a limited time, we ran quick user tests among our team members to find out which features were missing. As a result, we added a few more features, like Login, Countdown, and Final Screen.
Also, we had to use our resources wisely to fit in the limitations and now to overload the team. To that end, we gathered a team of enthusiastic developers, designers, and QAs.
02
Our fantastic designer got very enthusiastic about the project. So she devised a marvelous design with lots of elements and colors. The UX design was so excellent that the developers found it challenging to implement it in code.
The complexity of the Design also made the app more complicated in terms of logic and functionality.
Yet, through joint work and additional communication, we nailed it in the long run.
After a few iterations and several language trials, we managed to find a way to implement the amazing design.
Once we did the first wireframes, we realized that we had to build a Splash screen, which functioned as a navigation fork for Login, Dashboard, Countdown and Final Screen. Moreover, it was implemented as an opening-gate animation, which complicated things and added additional logic to the app.
One way for Dollar Shave Club to achieve this goal was through a mobile app, which would provide them with account management tools to encourage engagement. We implemented such features to keep users engaged: Original Content, Gift Cards, New Business Model with “Handsome discount”, Internationalization — shops in
non-US countries, and much more. We also needed to make sure the implemented design was
pixel-perfect, so that the app provided a smooth experience across all supported Android devices and as few bugs as possible (seriously).

At Uptech, we stay ahead of the tech edge. That is why it took us quite fast to come up with the NFT idea for the Hackathon app. We decided to use NFTs as Memory cards for the Hackathon participants to keep after the event.
The call was tricky, but we took it bravely!
Every user who login to the app by default had pre-defined NFT animated pics that had the user’s initials under the hood. In the NFT screen, users were taught how to sign up to the OpenSea and MetaMask apps. After successful signup to those services, users sent their wallet ids to the admin, who populated NFT tokens manually via OpenSea.
Each participant could download a personalized NFT card as a token of congratulation on participating or winning the competition.
The Hackathon participants could log into the app using their working emails that were pre-populated to the CMS before the event.
Before the Hakathon starts, the participant can see a Countdown screen, which counts the hours till the hackathon starts.
Once the competition starts, the participant logs in, and sees a Dashboard with all the necessary information about the user himself, the team, the Hakathon’s rules and the information about the prize.
To help participants better navigate through the event, we put an agenda overview into the app’s dashboard. Thus, the participants could see the event’s timetable.
Participants requested the mentor’s help a few times throughout the event. The app ensured they did it no more than a limited number of times, within good time lapses, and in a way fair for everyone competing.
This feature helps to keep users updated on the agenda and not to miss an important event or lunch.
For the Hackathon we included an NFT feature into the app. The participants could download the NFTs
At the end of the event, the users could see a dashboard with the competition results and a congratulations screen.
Uptech always keeps its standards high, even when it is a pet project like the Hackathon app. During this project, we followed all the Agile principles we put at the core of our client collaboration. With teamwork and creative enthusiasm of the Uptech team, we delivered a Hackathon app worth your attention and use.
