Waves Car Wash is a high-volume express car wash located in Boston, Massachusetts. Its on-site operations — including gates, sensors, and wash equipment — were already controlled by CleanTrak, a third-party car wash operations and control platform.

The challenge was not to replace this system, but to add a customer-facing digital layer that would handle payments, subscriptions, and access without requiring on-site terminals or staff involvement.

Uptech built a cross-platform solution for Web, iOS, and Android that connects directly to CleanTrak. The apps allow customers to register, purchase single washes or subscriptions, and activate a wash on-site. Payments are completed in advance, and access is granted directly from the customer’s account when they arrive, eliminating manual steps and in-person interactions.

Challenges and Solutions

Integrating digital access with existing car wash hardware

Waves Car Wash wanted customers to enter and use their car wash through a digital app. The problem: all gates, sensors, and wash equipment were already controlled by their POS system, a third-party software that couldn't be changed or rebuilt.

Solution

Uptech added a separate digital layer on top of the existing setup. This layer checks whether a customer has a valid wash or subscription and then sends a simple approval signal to CleanTrak. CleanTrak continues to run all physical equipment as usual.

High user friction caused by manual, on-site processes

Customers had to buy washes and activate them on location, either through physical terminals or with help from staff. This added wait time slowed repeat visits and felt outdated for customers expecting quick, self-service access.

Solution

Uptech moved the entire flow online. Customers can now pay in advance and start a wash directly from their account when they arrive — no terminals, no staff interaction. Every digital transaction feeds a centralized customer database, driving targeted promotions, refined subscription offers, and long-term customer retention.

Serving different user behaviors within one service model

Waves Car Wash needed to support two different customer types at the same time: repeat users on subscriptions and first-time visitors who just want a quick, one-off wash. The goal was to do this without making the experience confusing or changing the existing business logic.

Solution

Uptech designed two simple access paths that work together. Subscription customers use the mobile apps, while one-time users go through a lightweight web flow that doesn’t require account creation. Both paths connect to the same backend and on-site activation logic, so the wash process stays consistent.

Wash products and subscriptions

Customers can choose and buy single washes, packages, or subscriptions directly in the app, using their credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. All purchases are stored in their account and are instantly available.

On-site wash activation

Customers can start a wash directly from the app when they arrive. The process is fully self-service, cutting wait times and staff involvement.

Location information and user support

Each app version shows location details, hours, and contacts to help customers quickly get oriented. Users can also send support requests or feedback directly through the platform.

Web app for one-time use

The web app supports quick, one-time purchases. Users can buy a single wash and activate it immediately, without creating an account — ideal for first-time or walk-in customers.

User overview and account management

From the admin panel, the team can view each customer’s active washes and subscriptions, improving visibility and day-to-day operations.

Customer communication

Administrators can send push notifications from the admin panel to share updates, promotions, or service messages, keeping all customer communication in one place.
