Praedias builds PAEM After Care©, a platform that helps executors and families manage a loved one's Personal Affairs and Estate Management (PAEM©) requirements after they pass. Instead of separate services that cover either personal affairs or estate management, the platform combines both into one guided plan: notifications, benefit applications, and legal activities alongside financial assets, real estate, vehicles, and other valuables.
Uptech partnered with Praedias to take PAEM After Care© from concept to production. The engagement centered on the platform's core logic: a rule-driven questionnaire and task-generation engine that turns each person's answers into a personalized, ordered plan for managing a loved one's affairs, fully localized into French from the outset for the Canadian market.
Uptech also built the website that sells direct access to the platform, along with the integration that lets funeral homes resell access as part of their service packages, giving Praedias two distinct paths to reach families when they need the product most.

The questionnaire needed to show only the questions relevant to each person's exact situation, with branching complex enough that hard-coding every path wasn't realistic.
Solution
Uptech built a rule engine that evaluates each question's visibility in real time against a serialized condition and the user's profile, resolving dependencies across the entire questionnaire through a dependency graph. New branching scenarios can be added as configurable content rather than code changes.
Users often revise their answers partway through, and the platform needed the resulting task plan to update instantly without disturbing work already completed.
Solution
Every answer change triggers a full re-evaluation against an in-memory projection of the user's answers, and the engine classifies each affected task as create, restore, pause, or remove. Finished work is protected, and in-progress tasks are paused rather than deleted.
As sections of the questionnaire appeared and disappeared based on new answers, there was a risk of losing or corrupting data the user had already entered.
Solution
Answers move through a three-state lifecycle of staged, active, and suspended rather than being deleted. New answers are validated before promotion to active, and answers tied to a hidden branch are suspended and automatically restored the moment that branch becomes relevant again.
Instead of a generic checklist, users needed a task list built from their specific situation, including repeating items like multiple properties or bank accounts, without duplicate or conflicting tasks.
Solution
The same rule engine matches a library of task templates against the user's answers, generating one task per repeating entity and deduplicating overlapping answers so re-editing details updates existing tasks instead of creating copies. A CQRS architecture keeps task generation, answer processing, and access provisioning decoupled and reliable.
Users work through a detailed questionnaire, entering information about their deceased relative's affairs. The platform uses these answers to determine which PAEM© tasks apply to that person's specific situation.

Based on the questionnaire, users get a complete task list in recommended order of priority, covering both personal affairs (notifications, benefits, legal activities) and estate management (financial assets, real estate, vehicles, valuables).

Each task comes with clear instructions: who to contact, what to tell them, and which forms are needed, so users always know what to do next without researching it themselves.

The platform also connects to funeral homes: when a funeral home sells a service package that includes PAEM After Care© access, the customer receives a link and access code to activate their account.
